Matt: Matteo Alacran's clone.
El Patron: The original Matteo Alacran, who is a very powerful drug lord.
El Viejo: El Patron's grandson and Mr. Alacran's father.
Felicia: Mr. Alacran's wife and the mother of Benito, Steven and Tom.
Benito: The oldest of the Mr. Alacran and Felicia.
Steven: Second son of Mr. Alacran and Felicia.
Tom: Son of Felicia and Mr. MacGregor.
Senator Mendoza: A powerful politician in the U.S. and the father of Emilia and Maria.
Emilia: Oldest daughter of Senator Mendoza.
Maria: Younger daughter of Senator Mendoza and Matt's only friend that is his age.
Mr. MacGregor: Another drug lord
Celia: Chief cook and Matt's caregiver - she is also one of the only people that likes Matt.
Tam Lin: Bodyguard for El Patron and Matt. Also one of the few people that like Matt.
Mr. Ortega: Matt's music teacher.
Eejits: People with computer chips in their brains that make them do whatever they are told and nothing else.

 The House of the Scorpion is written by Nancy Farmer and is set in a futuristic country called Opium in between the U.S. and what used to be Mexico (Now called Aztlan). The country was created because Matteo Alacran/El Patron was a powerful drug lord who made a deal with the U.S. and Mexico that there would be a strip of land just for the production of drugs, but he couldn't sell them to the U.S. or Mexico. He would only sell them to Europe, Asia, and Africa. The country is a hot and humid place but filled with beautiful poppy fields. There's a secret place that still has green grass and trees that Matt sneeks to with his body guard whenever he can get away.


Right now in the book The House of the Scorpion. The main character Matt Alacran is attempting to escape from the country of Opium to the bordering country of Aztlan. The only thing thing that could stop him are the farm patrol. Which are like the boarder police not letting anything in or out. So once Matt made it over the cliff's and deserts all he had to do was get past the patrol. Matt could see the otherside and it was blocked by patrolers. Luckily for Matt somebody else was making a breack for the country of Opium and Matt took this chance to make a break for Aztlan. Just as he was about to cross the boarder one of the patrol men grabed his back pack and ripped it off and Matt roled in to the new country. Once inside of the country he was meet by nice people that cleaned him up then sent him to work and make friends with the orphans. Untill he could get a hovercraft to take him to San Luis to see his friend Maria


Character : Matteo Alacran
                        The House of the Scorpion is written by Nacy Farmer.  The story takes place in the future about a illegal clone named Matteo Alacran. The reason it's illegal is because when it is "born" its supposed to have a chip put in it to make sure its brain doesn't work. But the person the clone was clonned from El Petron wanted to give his clone a real life before he used the clones organsto make himself live longer. The clone Matteo changes a lot during the course of the book. He starts out as an isolated kid with no friends or anybody to talk to, then he gets out of his imprisonment and he starts to open up with few people. Then as he learns more about who and what he is, he starts to become more self aware of the surroundings and that everything is not what it seems. 
                       Matteo is an isiolated little kid. Matt was decoverd and locked up because he's a clone. The maid thst was supposed to take care of him got so mad with him, she laid saw dust in the little room he was trapped in. Matteo was unable to see why she was being so mean to him. He was so desperet for life to be with he would burry food (even though he was given barely enough food to stay alive) to attract insects and if he was lucky birds would fly through the iron bar window. Matt started out trying to make conversation with the maid but now he doesnt talk at all.
                      When Matt is let out of the prison he is reunited with his care giver before he was taking away. This was one of the only people that appreciated Matt her name is Celia and is as close to a mom that Matt will get. He still doesnt talk for the first few mounths, but   his only friend, Maria that is his age still comes to his room to try and get him to talk every day. When Maria leaves and so do most of the other people living in the castle. El Petron gave Matt a bodyguard whos name is Tam lin. Tam lin showed Matt the only grass lands and fresh water area in the whole country of Opium. 
                      As Matt starts to learn more about himself he gets scrared and worried. When Matt figures out what El Patron wants to do to him he starts to get nightmares about whats going to happen. He also starts to think of himself as about as worthless as cattle. He starts to belive what people are saying about him. When the times come for El Patron to use Matts heart Celia tells the docter that she has been giving him poison so if they took his heart El Patron would die. After that Tam Lin took Matt to the oasis and told himm to run to the border.
                      Matt finds out that El Patron was a drug lord who was a very bad man that sold drugs allover the world. Matt had made it across the boarder, but made the tough decision to come back to Opium and destroye the empire that his oqn blood had built.
